The moon (Poem)

Topic: The moon

Class: VI

Subject: English

Every night, I gaze at the sky

In search of magic

But all I see is darkness

The blanket of night covering me up

With no chance of escape

Still, I scan through the night

Until I see a ray of hope

Shining bright and tall

My magic; the moon!

Surrounded by the fluffy clouds,

When pushed by the evening breeze

Creates art in the sky.

"I wish I had a camera"

I whisper to myself

"So I would capture this magic for today and for eternity"

And I fall in love

Every night with my magic:

The moon!

Description

Video on musical sound

Topic: Musical sound
Class: V
Subject: Science

Sound is a wave or vibration that travels through three states of matter; solid, liquid and gas. And of course it is something that can be heard. Sound travels in mechanical waves. A mechanical wave is a disturbance that moves and transports energy from one place to another through a medium. In sound the disturbance is a vibrating object and the medium can be any series of interconnected and interactive particles.

So when you hit a gong there is a movement which causes some vibration in the molecules which in turn causes the other molecules around them to vibrate. The vibrations from one molecule to the other helps sound to travel. In space where there is just a vacuum and no matter, the sound will not travel because there wont be any molecules to vibrate.

Frequency is an important measure of sound. When there are more number of sound waves passing through a fixed place at a given time, it means that the frequencies is high. When the number of waves becomes less, we hear low frequency sound waves.

The human ear is capable of detecting frequencies between 20hz to 20,000hz, any frequency above or below that is inaudible to the human ear. High frequency sound waves will give us a higher pitch. The loudness of sound is measured in volume and to quantify volume, we use decibels.

A pattern of sounds intended to give pleasure to people listening to it is called music. Musical instruments helps us to make music. Music is one of the best forms of sound. When a musician plays a note of a certain pitch, the musical instrument vibrates and produces a pattern of sound waves made up of many different frequencies.

The most noticeable sound wave is called the fundamental, but there are other waves with higher frequencies, called harmonics. A drangyen makes musical sounds when its strings vibrate. If you pluck a drangyen string and watch it closely, you can see it vibrating very quickly. When you play any form of pipe instrument, such as flute, the air inside vibrates in patterns. Sound waves are transmitted through air and you hear them as musical notes.

Description
I will use this video to teach the topic ‘Musical sound’ from class five science. Through this video students will learn about sound and music and how sounds are produce. I created this video using camtasia after gathering all the information from online.  I inserted gif from online sources and related images. Then I recorded my voice with video and inserted in the video. I browsed related video and clubbed with my video for better understanding. I also recorded screen from power point through camtasia. The camtasia software is useful in editing videos and it is user friendly.
Question: Can you take a guitar and play the heaviest and thinnest string. Is there a difference in sound?

Endangered animal

Topic: Endangered species

Class: VI (Science)

Description
Plants and animals are important to maintain the balance in the natural environment. It is important to protect their habitat to prevent them from becoming endangered and then extinct.
I created this picture through reading some materials online and then assembled the gathered information in PowerPoint. I cropped it using snipping tool to upload in my blog as we cannot upload file itself. So through this I can teach some of the endangered species in the world.

Write about other endangered animal in the comment section below.

About Lhuntse
In the northeastern corner of Bhutan lies the ancient region of Kurtoe or Lhuntse as it is known today. It is the ancestral home of our Kings and hosts several of the sacred sites of pilgrimage in the country.
Some of the attractions in the region include the Lhuntse Dzong, Khoma village (famous for weaving), Singye Dzong, Guru statue at Takila and Dungkar.

This mighty fortress, popularly known as Lhundub Rinchentse sits upon a hill overlooking the Kurichu River. It was constructed in 1654 by the Trongsa Penlop, Chogyal Minjur Tempa upon the site of an older temple built by Nagi Wangchuk in 1552. Today the dzong is the administrative and the religious centre of the district. It houses many sacred artifacts that were installed by the 4th Druk Desi Tenzin Rabgay.

Khoma village is located about two hours walk from the Dzong. This village is known throughout the country for its signature woven textile, the Kishuthara. The women sit in a row of makeshift textile cottage, weaving intricate designs and patterns. Picking up a Kishuthara here will be much cheaper than buying it from one of the handicraft shops in the capital. The region is famous for its weavers and their distinctive textiles are generally considered to be the best in the country. The weaving handicraft looms are common sight in almost every household.

Singye Dzong is one of the sacred places visited by Guru Rinpoche in the history of Bhutan. Thousands of pilgrims make a visit every year. It is also located within the Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary close to the Tibetan border. It is three day journey from the road head in Lhuentse. The closest communities to Singye Dzong are Khomagang and Denchung villages. Currently, the area has meditation center that accommodates 12 monks in a three year retreat, two main monasteries are Gawa Dzong and Singye Dzong.

Wangla Mountain is also a sacred place where Guru Chana Dorji meditated. The surrounding around the lhakhang is very clean with beautiful flowers favorable in high altitude. The one can experience fresh air to breathe and calm place to rest. The main relic of singye dzong is Phurpa Terma.

The world's largest statue Of Guru Padmasambhava, with the total height of 173 feet, stands imposingly on the Takila mountain slope, which is one of the most beautiful scenic spots in Lhuntse district, overlooking the entire valley of Tangmachu. Belonging to the Tangmuchu community, an old monastery (Lhakhang) exists at the site of Guru Statue.

It is believed that the statue was built after the sacred prophesy of the the great terton Lerab Lingpa (1856 – 1926), who prophesied that, ‘At one point of time, there will be a war of horses in Kurtoe valley. To prevent this war, a statue of Guru Nangsi Zilnoen should be built’. Similarly, the late Lama Sonam Zangpo in the 20th century, the most revered Yogi of Bhutan, emphasized that, for ensuring continued prosperity in the world in general and Bhutan in particular, a giant statue of Guru Rinpoche should be built in Takila, Lhuntse district in eastern Bhutan.

The statue is built by the late  Ven. Khenpo Karpo Rinpoche who is one of the masters of the present 5th King of Bhutan.

The house of Dungkar, one of the noble lineages from Kurtoe was home to the Trongsa Penlop Jigme Namgyal, the father of the Wangchuck dynasty. Dungkar Naktshang, the ancient home of the Dungkar Chojie and the ancestral home of the Wangchuck Dynasty, stands amid a scenic backdrop of towering mountains overlooking the tiny Dungkar village below. There is a 40km dirt road from Lhuentse leading up to Dungkar Lhakhang. The Dungkar expedition is an exciting and magical voyage into Bhutan’s past.

Description

First of all I planned what to include in my simulation and then I gathered all the information including images from online sources. In PowerPoint Presentation I inserted related images and recorded audio. I used many animation in order to make it more like video and I selected after previous to have continuous flow of animations. I explored through animation pane and at last I created this simulation.

So through this simulation I can teach the students about the topic "My village" from class four social studies. After going through my simulation and description about my village the students can describe their village through simulation.

Activity Instruction: Make a simulation describing about your own village using PowerPoint Presentation. Your simulation should look like video and it can be 1-2 minutes. You will present your work with whole class in next session.
